Genomics Data Scientist 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Bayer is seeking a genome data scientist with expertise in genomics and a broad understanding of omics data analysis. This position will be part of a dynamic team focused on leveraging various types of omics data, including gene expression, transcriptomics, and comparative genomic analysis, to support discovery teams and projects for seeds & traits in the Crop Science portfolio.

 

The successful candidate will be able to implement cloud-based genomics pipelines and improve and optimize them; be able to generate insights from expression data and comparative genomic analyses on a range of eukaryotic systems; work well with cross-disciplinary teams; and be able to articulate findings and make recommendations to partners to advance trait projects.

 

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Genomics Data Scientist, are to: 

 

  • Analyze genomics data to understand the genome biology of pipeline traits, build models or reports providing data-driven recommendations to advance the product discovery pipeline;
  • Independently run bioinformatics analysis & genomics pipelines, statistical analysis, predictive modeling and experimental design;
  • Maintain and improve cloud-based genomics pipelines;
  • Build cross-functional relationships to collaboratively partner with the business and effectively network within the Data Science Community;
  • Contribute to the development of code, bioinformatic analyses pipelines, computational tools, and databases for mining and visualizing large genomic data sets;
  • Clearly communicate findings and recommendations to partners;
  • Present compelling, validated stories to all levels of organization, including peers, senior management, and internal customers to drive both strategic and operational changes in business.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Masters degree;
  • Educational preparation or applied experience in at least one of the following areas: Machine Learning, Electrical/Industrial Engineering, Operation Research, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science or other related quantitative discipline;
  • Demonstrates intermediate proficiency in computational skills and level of experience building data models using R, Python or other statistical and/or mathematical programming packages;
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of software development best practices (Version Control, Code Documentation & Review, Cloud Based Sequence Analysis, Database Management);
  • Basic proficiency in machine learning algorithms and concepts;
  • Experience in successful delivery of valuable analysis through application of domain knowledge; evidence of ability to develop strong business acumen;
  • Strong communication competencies to include presentations and delivery of complex quantitative analyses in a clear, concise and actionable manner to extended team and small groups of key stakeholders.
 

.Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Masters degree with 2+ years experience or PhD.
 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $105,646.00 to $158,500.00.  Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).  Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..  This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
