About Coupang

We exist to wow our customers. We know we’re doing the right thing when we hear our customers say, “How did we ever live without Coupang?” Born out of an obsession to make shopping, eating, and living easier than ever, we’re collectively disrupting the multi-billion-dollar e-commerce industry from the ground up. We are one of the fastest-growing e-commerce companies that established an unparalleled reputation for being a dominant and reliable force in South Korean commerce.

We are proud to have the best of both worlds — a startup culture with the resources of a large global public company. This fuels us to continue our growth and launch new services at the speed we have been at since our inception. We are all entrepreneurial surrounded by opportunities to drive new initiatives and innovations. At our core, we are bold and ambitious people that like to get our hands dirty and make a hands-on impact. At Coupang, you will see yourself, your colleagues, your team, and the company grow every day.

We are building a new Zero-One startup within Coupang focused on in-house development of Robotics and Automation technology to support our fulfillment and logistics network. Global Operations Automation and Robotics Technology (GO ART) is an organization responsible for developing and deploying the most advanced and innovative fulfillment and transportation automation and robotics solutions that will transform Coupang’s fulfillment and logistics network. This is a unique opportunity to join a startup within one of the leading e-Commerce companies in Asia. The team will be based out of Coupang’s offices in Mountain View, Seoul or Seattle.

We are looking for experienced computer vision experts to be the Principal/Sr. Staff Robotic Perception Engineer, the brain behind the GO ART sensing and perception team.  This technology leader will draw from his rich experiences and deep expertise in developing and deploying FC automation solutions using computer vision to define our technology roadmap and lead the design, implementation, and rollout of advanced robotic perception solutions over Coupang’s logistics network.  With a startup mindset, this technology leader can operate comfortably under ambiguity, with the opportunity to initially be hands-on while building the computer vision technology and product from ground-up, grow the org and deliver results under time and resource constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Own GO ART’s robotic perception technology vision and development roadmap.
  2. Be the go-to-person for the state-of-the-art computer vision technologies and its application in FC automation.
  3. Lead design, development, test, and deployment of integrated automation and robotic perception systems, especially for robotic manipulation.
  4. Working with other members of the engineering team and stakeholders to execute against project plans and delivery commitments within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  5. Deliver production-quality HW and SW perception systems in order to achieve the scalability, reliability, availability, extensibility, and performance objectives.
  6. Bring innovative ideas to practice and continuously improve the efficiency, reduce the cost and wow the customers through smart Coupang Rocket Delivery service.

  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities and to deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working closely with multiple engineering teams from fulfillment and logistics fields, which is mainly operating based on KST time-zone.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics, Computer Vision, AI, or related discipline with 8+ years of experience in FC and logistic automation using robotic manipulation technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability of building, integrating, and delivering highly reliable and automated warehouse systems using computer vision technologies, especially using robotic arm and robotic manipulation solutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of real-time DNN, object detection, tracking, recognition and pose estimation, 3D data processing, 3D object recognition, automated sensor calibration, etc.
  • Deep expertise in real-time AI, robotic, robotic manipulation and automation system and technologies.
