AI Assistive Navigation Developer

Bella Sharma

About the role

GPS tells you to turn left in 200 meters. For someone who is visually impaired, that instruction is almost useless. Which left? Past the pole or before it? Is there a curb? A construction barrier? Our assistive navigation app uses computer vision and spatial understanding to give step-by-step guidance that accounts for obstacles, surface conditions, and environmental hazards. The core ML challenge is real-time scene understanding on a mobile phone camera. You'll build models that detect sidewalks, crosswalks, obstacles, stairs, doors, and signage — then translate those detections into audio navigation instructions that update every 2 seconds. Accuracy matters more here than in most CV applications: a missed obstacle can cause physical harm. The accessibility engineering team is six people. You'll work alongside a UX researcher who tests with visually impaired users weekly and a mobile engineer who handles the iOS and Android integration. User feedback drives our roadmap directly — every sprint includes at least two issues reported by real users.
