About the role

Have you ever watched a chatbot confidently answer the wrong question because it couldn't tell which of 3 plausible meanings the user intended? That's the problem this role solves. And it's harder than it looks. Mevra builds conversational search engines for B2B software products. Our query understanding stack is strong on single-intent queries but breaks down on ambiguous inputs — product names that could be verbs, questions that presuppose context the system doesn't have, multi-step intent chains that users pack into a single utterance. This is a freelance engagement (6 months, with likelihood of extension) to build the disambiguation classifier that sits upstream of our query router. You'll own architecture, fine-tuning, and production deployment. We have a well-labeled disambiguation dataset (12,000+ examples) already prepared. We need someone who can turn it into a production classifier.

Responsibilities

  • Design and fine-tune a disambiguation classifier on our labeled intent ambiguity dataset
  • Build confidence scoring to route low-confidence cases to clarification prompts
  • Integrate the classifier into the existing query routing pipeline
  • Develop regression benchmarks to prevent quality degradation across releases
  • Document model behavior and edge cases for the full NLP team

Requirements

  • 3+ years in NLP with text classification and sequence labeling experience
  • Fine-tuning experience with Hugging Face transformers
  • Strong Python skills and FastAPI for deployment
  • Understanding of intent classification in dialogue systems
