AI Long-Context Faithfulness Evaluation Developer

Sofia Garcia

Full-time · Job · San_Francisco

About the role

LLMs operating on long documents face a specific faithfulness failure mode: the model generates an answer that's plausible and fluent but isn't actually supported by the document it was given. This is different from hallucination in the standard sense — the model isn't confabulating general knowledge, it's failing to stay faithful to the provided context. For summarization, question answering, and document analysis use cases where faithfulness to the source is the primary quality requirement, detecting these failures is the core evaluation challenge. We design and run model evaluations for AI research labs and enterprise AI teams. Long-context faithfulness evaluation is a specialization area we're developing: building evaluation datasets with specific faithfulness failure type coverage (unsupported claims, wrong-document attribution, contradicted-by-source statements) and automated evaluation pipelines that measure faithfulness without requiring human review of every test case. You'll build the long-context faithfulness evaluation system: designing evaluation tasks that distinguish faithfulness failure types, building the automated faithfulness judge that uses LLMs to assess source fidelity at scale, and developing the evaluation analysis tooling that helps research teams understand which context lengths and document types surface faithfulness degradation.

Responsibilities

  • Design long-context faithfulness evaluation tasks covering unsupported claims, wrong attribution, and source contradiction
  • Build automated faithfulness judge using LLM-based evaluation calibrated against human faithfulness assessments
  • Implement context length ablation evaluation measuring how faithfulness degrades as context grows
  • Develop document type sensitivity analysis identifying which source types trigger most faithfulness failures
  • Create faithfulness evaluation dataset curation pipeline ensuring diverse failure type coverage
  • Build evaluation analysis dashboards supporting research team interpretation of faithfulness benchmark results

Requirements

  • 3+ years in NLP engineering with LLM evaluation, benchmark design, or faithfulness and hallucination research
  • Strong Python skills with LLM evaluation pipeline development and statistical analysis
  • Understanding of faithfulness evaluation methodology, attribution assessment, and NLI-based evaluation approaches
  • Experience building automated evaluation systems calibrated against human judgment
  • Ability to design evaluation datasets that provide persistent signal as model capabilities improve

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • Health and dental insurance
  • $3,000 annual professional development budget
  • 401(k) with match
  • Equity options
