About the role

Rolling back a model version sounds simple until you realize the downstream impact. A recommendation model rollback might invalidate cached recommendations for 500,000 users. A fraud model rollback changes the risk scoring for pending transactions. A search ranking rollback affects A/B test results that other teams depend on. Blind rollbacks cause cascading failures that are worse than the issue they're trying to fix. Our impact assessment tool analyzes what happens before you roll back: which downstream systems consume this model's output, what data was generated by the current version that becomes inconsistent after rollback, and what the estimated business impact is in dollars or user-affecting metrics. You'll build the dependency graph that maps model outputs to consumers and the impact simulator that estimates rollback consequences. The deployment platform team is five engineers. You'll own the impact assessment module, working between the deployment automation team and the client operations teams who need to make rollback decisions under time pressure.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build model dependency graphs mapping outputs to downstream consumers
  • Design impact simulation for rollback consequence estimation
  • Quantify rollback impact in business metrics: revenue, user sessions, cache invalidation
  • Create pre-rollback reports for informed decision-making under time pressure
  • Track actual rollback impact against predicted impact for model calibration
  • Integrate impact assessment into the deployment automation workflow

Requirements

  • 3+ years in platform engineering or MLOps
  • Experience with system dependency mapping and impact analysis
  • Strong Python and Kubernetes skills
  • Understanding of production ML systems and their failure modes
  • Ability to build tools used under incident response time pressure

Benefits

  • Fully remote with async communication
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • $3,000 annual learning budget
  • Stock options
  • Build safety nets for production ML deployments
