About the role

We monitor brand mentions across social media, news, forums, and review sites for 300 brands. The raw mention volume our system ingests is 4 million items per day. Without categorization, that's noise. With categorization — product complaint, customer service issue, competitive comparison, brand advocacy, influencer mention, executive reference — it becomes actionable intelligence. As a junior NLP developer, you'll build and maintain the brand mention categorization pipeline. The models themselves are LLM-based; your job is to build the classification prompts, implement the output parsing and validation logic, maintain the category taxonomy as client needs evolve, and build the accuracy monitoring that catches when categorization quality drops. Senior NLP engineers handle the hard cases — novel categories, ambiguous mentions, adversarial content. You'll own the standard classification pipeline that handles 90% of volume reliably and routes the other 10% to the right place. If you want to learn applied NLP in a production system that processes millions of real social media posts daily, this role gives you direct hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain brand mention categorization prompts for the LLM-based classification pipeline
  • Implement output parsing and validation logic ensuring structured category assignments
  • Create accuracy monitoring tracking categorization quality against spot-check samples
  • Maintain category taxonomy as client brand monitoring requirements evolve
  • Build the routing logic directing low-confidence mentions for human review
  • Support client reporting by ensuring categorization consistency across time periods

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development experience
  • Basic familiarity with NLP concepts and text classification
  • Interest in social media analytics or brand intelligence
  • Attention to categorization accuracy and consistency
  • Good communication skills for collaborating with client success managers
