Senior AI Pathology Slide Foundation Model Researcher

About the role

We believe better diagnostics should reach every hospital, not only the top academic centers. Orbio AI builds decision support for pathologists, and we're starting work on a foundation model trained on whole-slide images from a consortium of partner hospitals. As a senior researcher you'll shape that effort: self-supervised pretraining strategy, how to handle gigapixel slides efficiently, and which downstream tasks (tumor grading, biomarker prediction, rare cancer detection) prove the model is useful. You'll publish where it makes sense and work with pathologists who will tell you, kindly but firmly, when the model is wrong.

Responsibilities

  • Lead pretraining strategy for a whole-slide image foundation model
  • Design efficient tiling, sampling and multi-instance learning approaches for gigapixel images
  • Define downstream benchmarks with pathologist collaborators
  • Publish research and present results to clinical partners

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in computer vision or medical imaging
  • Experience with self-supervised learning at scale
  • Strong PyTorch and distributed training skills
  • Prior work with histopathology data is a strong plus
