About the role

The tool you'll build will be used by 10,000+ researchers who currently can't answer a simple question: who in the world is working on problems adjacent to mine, and should we collaborate? Our platform already indexes 80M+ academic papers and extracts citation graphs. What we don't have yet is a collaboration opportunity layer — one that identifies researcher pairs who share methodology, work in related subfields, but have never co-authored. That's the gap you'll close. The role combines expertise extraction from publication abstracts, graph analytics for collaboration network traversal, and retrieval pipelines for surfacing the right researcher matches. You'll work closely with our graph infrastructure team and contribute to a feature already on the roadmap of three university system clients.

Responsibilities

  • Build researcher expertise profiles from publication abstracts using topic modeling and NER
  • Implement graph-based similarity scoring across the collaboration network
  • Design retrieval pipelines that surface collaboration matches for given research profiles
  • Evaluate recommendation quality with automated metrics and researcher feedback panels
  • Contribute to API design for integration with the existing search interface

Requirements

  • 3+ years in NLP or data science with graph analysis experience
  • Familiarity with knowledge graph concepts and graph traversal algorithms
  • Python proficiency; experience with Hugging Face ecosystem preferred
  • Ability to work with large-scale academic datasets (structured and unstructured)
