AI API Dependency Risk Analyzer

Hudson Larsson

Full-time · Job · Los_Angeles

About the role

An API that 3,000 consumers depend on is a high-blast-radius system. When it goes down or changes in a breaking way, the downstream impact is invisible until it's everywhere at once. API dependency risk — understanding which consumers depend on which API endpoints, how heavily, and what the failure cascade looks like if a given API becomes unavailable — is information that platform teams want but rarely have. Our API management platform handles 8 billion API calls per month across 120 enterprise clients. Dependency risk analysis is a capability gap: clients can see their API traffic but can't see the dependency graph that tells them 'if this endpoint degrades, these 340 consumers will be affected.' You'll build the analytics system that closes this gap. You'll design the dependency graph construction from API traffic logs, implement risk scoring that estimates blast radius per endpoint per consumer, and build the risk visualization that platform teams use to prioritize reliability investments. The output feeds both operational decisions (which APIs need the best SLAs) and change management decisions (which APIs need migration notice periods when they change).

Responsibilities

  • Build API dependency graph construction from traffic logs, identifying consumer-to-endpoint relationships
  • Implement blast radius risk scoring per endpoint based on consumer count and call volume
  • Design failure cascade modeling estimating downstream impact when critical endpoints degrade
  • Create dependency risk visualization for platform team operational planning
  • Build change impact analysis estimating consumer exposure to proposed API breaking changes
  • Monitor dependency graph evolution as consumers onboard and API surfaces evolve

Requirements

  • 3+ years in API platform engineering, backend data engineering, or platform analytics
  • Strong Python and SQL skills with graph data analysis experience
  • Understanding of API gateway concepts, dependency management, and SLA design
  • Experience analyzing traffic logs at scale to derive behavioral insights
  • Ability to design risk metrics that drive actionable platform engineering decisions

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • Health and dental insurance
  • $3,000 annual professional development budget
  • 401(k) with match
  • Equity options
