About the role

Our rate limiting and API gateway performance tools already keep legitimate traffic flowing smoothly, but a leaked or shared API key produces traffic that looks legitimate right up until a client's bill triples overnight. This role builds a detection layer that spots abnormal usage patterns tied to a specific key, whether from credential leakage, sharing, or automated scraping, and flags it before the anomaly turns into a support escalation.

Responsibilities

  • Build detection models for abnormal API key usage patterns
  • Distinguish legitimate traffic spikes from likely key abuse
  • Integrate detection alerts into the existing gateway monitoring stack
  • Work with support teams to validate flagged keys against real cases

Requirements

  • Experience with anomaly detection on API or usage log data
  • Comfortable with Python, SQL, and containerized services
  • Understanding of API authentication and rate limiting concepts
  • Ability to balance detection sensitivity against false positives
