AI API Monetization Analytics Engineer

About the role

API pricing is one of the least understood levers in SaaS. Should you charge per call, per token, per outcome, or per seat? The answer depends on usage patterns we can measure but rarely analyze deeply enough. Our platform manages API infrastructure for 480 developer-facing SaaS products, and we sit on one of the richest API usage datasets in the industry. You'll build the analytics layer that helps our clients understand how developers actually use their APIs — usage clustering, cohort retention by pricing tier, elasticity modeling when prices change, and churn signals from usage pattern shifts. The output is a monetization intelligence dashboard that product and pricing teams use to make tier and pricing decisions. This is an analytics engineering role that sits at the intersection of data infrastructure and business insight. You'll write a lot of SQL, build a lot of pipelines, and present findings to non-technical stakeholders who make consequential pricing decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Build usage clustering models to identify distinct developer behavior patterns
  • Develop retention and churn analytics segmented by pricing tier and usage type
  • Create price elasticity models from A/B test and natural experiment data
  • Design the monetization intelligence dashboard for product and pricing teams
  • Build data pipelines processing API usage events at scale
  • Present analytical findings to non-technical product stakeholders

Requirements

  • 3+ years in product analytics or data engineering
  • Expert-level SQL and strong Python data manipulation skills
  • Experience with large-scale event data pipelines
  • Familiarity with cohort analysis, retention modeling, and A/B test analysis
  • Ability to communicate data insights to business audiences clearly
