AI Audio Mastering Pipeline Developer

About the role

Professional audio mastering costs $50-200 per track and takes 1-3 days per album. Our AI mastering engine produces broadcast-ready masters in 4 minutes for $5. We've mastered 2.8 million tracks for independent artists, podcasters, and small labels who can't afford traditional mastering studios. The challenge isn't making audio louder — any limiter can do that. Real mastering requires understanding genre conventions, compensating for mix deficiencies, and making subtle tonal adjustments that sound natural across different playback systems: earbuds, car speakers, club PA systems. Our models learn these genre-specific aesthetics from a training set of 80,000 professionally mastered tracks. You'll own the mastering pipeline from audio ingestion to final delivery. That includes the ML models (spectral processing, dynamics, stereo imaging), the quality assurance system that catches artifacts, and the rendering pipeline that outputs in 12 delivery formats. The audio engineering team is four people; you're the senior ML engineer who decides when a model improvement is ready for production.

Responsibilities

  • Own the AI mastering pipeline end-to-end: models, QA, and rendering
  • Improve genre-specific mastering quality through model architecture and training
  • Build automated quality assurance to detect mastering artifacts
  • Optimize the rendering pipeline for multiple delivery formats
  • Evaluate mastering quality using both automated metrics and A/B listening tests
  • Set technical direction for model development and release decisions

Requirements

  • 6+ years in audio ML or signal processing with production systems
  • Deep understanding of audio engineering concepts: EQ, dynamics, stereo imaging
  • Strong PyTorch skills for spectral and temporal audio models
  • Experience building real-time or near-real-time audio processing pipelines
  • Ability to hear and diagnose subtle audio quality issues
