About the role

We just landed our first major studio contract and need a matte generation specialist fast. Our problem: manually rotoscoping backgrounds for VFX shots eats weeks of artist time on every project, and our deadlines just got a lot tighter. You'll build the model that generates clean background mattes directly from raw footage, cutting rotoscoping time from days to hours. Fast-moving team, big problem, we need someone who ships without a lot of hand-holding. This is a freelance engagement to start, with real potential to turn into an ongoing relationship if the results land.

Responsibilities

  • Build background matte generation models from raw footage
  • Benchmark matte quality against manual rotoscoping baselines
  • Integrate the model into the existing VFX pipeline
  • Iterate quickly based on artist feedback
  • Document model limitations for edge cases like motion blur

Requirements

  • 3+ years in computer vision or generative video models
  • Experience with matting, segmentation, or rotoscoping tools
  • Strong PyTorch or TensorFlow background
  • Comfortable working on a freelance, deadline-driven basis
  • Portfolio of prior VFX or video ML work
