AI Bike Share Rebalancing Optimization Engineer

About the role

Postgres, geospatial indexing, and a fleet of a thousand rebalancing vans are what we work with daily. Cities pay us to keep bike share stations from sitting empty or overflowing, and every van route we optimize saves real driving hours across a metro area. You'll build the optimization models that predict station demand imbalance hours ahead and generate rebalancing routes for driver fleets, working within a cross-functional squad with dispatch operations and two other data engineers. This is interesting work because the constraints are real and physical: van capacity, traffic patterns, driver shift limits. A model that looks great on paper but ignores a driver's lunch break just creates a different kind of failure.

Responsibilities

  • Build demand imbalance forecasting models for bike share stations
  • Generate optimized rebalancing routes within driver and van constraints
  • Partner with dispatch operations on route feasibility feedback
  • Track rebalancing efficiency gains across pilot and full-scale cities
  • Present rebalancing metrics in bi-weekly cross-functional syncs

Requirements

  • Experience with geospatial or route optimization problems
  • Strong SQL and pandas skills for demand modeling
  • Familiarity with scikit-learn for forecasting and clustering
  • Comfortable working within real-world operational constraints
