About the role

Advanced AI systems only earn trust when their explanations mean something, and that's the problem this team exists to solve. This role sits at the intersection of interpretability and evaluation research: you'll investigate whether a model's stated reasoning actually reflects the computation driving its answer, and build benchmarks that detect when it doesn't. We publish internally and encourage conference submissions, so you'll be expected to read papers, replicate findings, and extend them with novel evaluation methodology. The benchmarks you build will directly inform how much we trust chain-of-thought explanations across every model we ship.

Responsibilities

  • Design benchmarks measuring chain-of-thought faithfulness
  • Replicate and extend published interpretability research
  • Publish findings internally and at relevant conferences
  • Collaborate with alignment researchers on evaluation methodology

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent research experience in ML or NLP
  • Strong publication record in interpretability or evaluation
  • PyTorch proficiency
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous, open-ended research settings
