AI Chargeback Prevention Specialist

About the role

Chargebacks cost merchants $40 billion annually. Each disputed transaction triggers a cascade — investigation costs, representment fees, and if the chargeback rate exceeds 1%, the card networks impose penalties that can shut down a merchant's ability to accept cards entirely. Our prevention system catches disputes before they become chargebacks. You'll build the prevention models: identifying transactions likely to be disputed based on purchase patterns, customer history, and merchant risk profiles. You'll also design the automated representment system that fights invalid chargebacks with evidence assembled from transaction records, delivery confirmations, and customer interaction logs. Chargeback prevention is a time-sensitive classification problem. You have hours between a customer complaint and a formal dispute to intervene — resolving the issue directly, issuing a proactive refund, or preparing evidence for representment. The models need to be fast, accurate, and calibrated to each merchant's risk tolerance.

Responsibilities

  • Build transaction dispute prediction models from purchase and customer behavior data
  • Design automated representment systems assembling evidence for invalid chargebacks
  • Calibrate prevention thresholds per merchant risk profile and tolerance
  • Monitor chargeback rate trends and flag merchants approaching network thresholds
  • Analyze dispute patterns identifying root causes for merchant operational improvement

Requirements

  • 5+ years in payments, fraud prevention, or financial risk modeling
  • Strong scikit-learn and Python skills for classification at scale
  • Deep understanding of payment processing and chargeback lifecycle
  • SQL proficiency for transaction-level data analysis
  • Experience with time-sensitive prediction systems
