AI Chatbot Fallback Response Quality Engineer

About the role

We don't care where you work from. We care about output, clear communication, and ownership over the parts of the system you touch. Right now, whenever our conversational search assistant can't confidently answer a query, it falls back to a generic 'I'm not sure' response that users find unhelpful and slightly embarrassing. You'll rebuild that fallback path so it offers a useful partial answer, a clarifying question, or a relevant link instead of a dead end. You'll be measured on one thing: whether fallback conversations still lead to a resolved session.

Responsibilities

  • Rebuild the fallback response path for low-confidence queries
  • Design clarifying-question logic for ambiguous user intent
  • Track resolution rate for conversations that hit the fallback path

Requirements

  • 2-4 years working with conversational ai or rag systems
  • Strong prompt engineering and langchain experience
  • Comfortable owning a metric end to end
