AI Chatbot Prompt Engineer

About the role

We don't care where you work from. We care about clear communication, steady output, and whether your prompt changes actually reduce chatbot escalations to human agents week over week. You'll write and iterate on prompts for our customer-facing chatbot, using LlamaIndex-backed retrieval to ground answers in our knowledge base, and track escalation rate as your core success metric. This contract-to-hire role runs for three months with a clear conversion decision point, and you'll have full visibility into the metrics that decision is based on.

Responsibilities

  • Write and iterate on prompts for the customer chatbot
  • Ground chatbot answers using LlamaIndex retrieval pipelines
  • Track and report on escalation rate improvements
  • Automate prompt regression checks after each change

Requirements

  • 1+ year of prompt engineering or chatbot development experience
  • Familiarity with RAG frameworks like LlamaIndex or LangChain
  • Comfortable working async across time zones
  • Strong written communication skills
