AI Circular Economy Material Flow Analyst

About the role

We believe AI should work for everyone, not just big tech, and our tools are used by nonprofits and public health organizations tracking environmental impact at the community level. Zelux Studio already has carbon accounting and biodiversity monitoring products live with clients, but material flow analysis — tracking how materials move through reuse and recycling systems — is a gap in our current lineup that partner organizations keep asking about. Your role is to build the first version of this analysis, working with pandas and numpy on messy municipal recycling data, and turning it into something a local sustainability office can actually use to make decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Build material flow analysis models from municipal recycling and reuse data
  • Clean and structure messy public sector environmental datasets
  • Design outputs that non-technical sustainability offices can act on
  • Collaborate with partner nonprofits to validate analysis usefulness
  • Document data sources and known limitations

Requirements

  • Python fundamentals with pandas and numpy for data cleaning
  • SQL experience for working with public datasets
  • Interest in environmental or sustainability applications
  • Comfort with ambiguous, messy real-world data
  • 0-2 years experience welcome
