About the role

Municipal governments are drowning in constituent requests — permit applications, zoning questions, code violation reports, public records requests. Our AI tools help city staff respond faster and more consistently, but we're expanding into new territory: proactive outreach, where the AI identifies residents who might benefit from programs they don't know about. You'll build the proactive outreach engine: analyzing public records to identify eligible residents, generating personalized notifications, and routing inquiries through the right channels. You'll also maintain our existing request classification and routing systems. We work with 12 municipalities across the US. Every feature you build is tested against real constituent interactions and measured by time-to-resolution. If you care about making government work better for people, this is tangible public service work.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI-powered proactive outreach systems for municipal program eligibility
  • Design personalized notification generation for eligible residents
  • Maintain and improve constituent request classification systems
  • Develop routing logic connecting inquiries to appropriate departments
  • Measure feature impact on constituent time-to-resolution

Requirements

  • 3+ years in software engineering with NLP or automation experience
  • Hands-on LangChain and OpenAI API experience
  • Strong Python skills with FastAPI
  • SQL proficiency for public records analysis
  • Interest in civic technology and public service
