AI Claims Document Routing Specialist

About the role

An insurance claim arrives with a stack of documents — medical records, police reports, repair estimates, photos — and someone needs to figure out which adjuster handles it. The routing decision depends on claim type (auto, property, liability), coverage amount, document completeness, and adjuster workload. Getting it wrong means the claim bounces between desks for days. You'll build the automated routing system that classifies incoming claims from their documents, checks for completeness against the required document checklist for each claim type, and assigns them to the best-fit adjuster considering specialization and current workload. It's a classification problem wrapped in a workflow automation problem. The claims automation team is four engineers. You'll start with the document classification module — sorting incoming files into categories like "medical record," "estimate," "police report" — before moving to the routing logic. Your senior teammate handles the adjuster workload balancing; you'll provide the classification signals that feed their algorithm.

Responsibilities

  • Build document classification for incoming insurance claim files
  • Implement completeness checking against claim-type-specific document checklists
  • Design routing logic matching claims to adjusters by specialization
  • Test classification accuracy against manually routed historical claims
  • Handle multi-document claims with mixed file types
  • Document routing rules and classification patterns

Requirements

  • 1+ year of Python development experience
  • Basic understanding of text classification or document processing
  • Familiarity with SQL databases and REST APIs
  • Interest in automation and workflow optimization
  • Systematic approach to testing and edge case handling
