AI Climate Data Engineer

About the role

We just added three new climate modeling contracts this quarter, and our existing data engineering team can't keep up with the volume of satellite and sensor feeds coming in. We publish internally and encourage conference submissions, so even in a junior role you'll be expected to read the climate science literature behind the datasets you're processing, not just move files around. You'll build data pipelines in Python and R that clean and structure raw climate feeds for our modeling team. You'll report to a senior data engineer who will pair with you closely for the first few months while you get comfortable with our data model.

Responsibilities

  • Build data cleaning pipelines for satellite and sensor climate feeds
  • Support senior data scientists with structured, validated datasets
  • Write statistical validation checks using pandas and numpy
  • Read relevant climate science literature to understand data context

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience with Python and data pipeline work
  • Basic R proficiency or willingness to learn quickly
  • Foundational statistics knowledge
  • Curiosity about climate science is a strong plus
