AI Cloth and Hair Simulation Engineer

Maya Patel

Full-time · Job · Los_Angeles

About the role

As a team that's spent years making rigged characters, lit scenes, and captured facial performance look real, we've noticed the last thing that still breaks the illusion is cloth and hair moving unnaturally in motion. Our motion retargeting and crowd simulation tools handle skeletal animation well, but soft-body physics like flowing hair and draped fabric are still hand-animated frame by frame on most productions. This role builds learned simulation models that predict physically plausible cloth and hair motion in real time.

Responsibilities

  • Build learned simulation models for cloth and hair motion prediction
  • Integrate simulation output with existing motion retargeting pipelines
  • Validate physical plausibility against reference motion capture data
  • Optimize simulation models for real-time production rendering

Requirements

  • Experience with physics simulation or learned dynamics models
  • Strong PyTorch and computer vision background
  • Familiarity with animation or VFX production pipelines
  • Comfortable working two days a week from the studio

Benefits

  • Hybrid schedule with two studio days per week
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Credit on shipped productions
