About the role

Cloud migration cost estimates are notoriously wrong. A Fortune 500 company in our client book budgeted $2.8M for a workload migration and spent $6.1M. The overage wasn't recklessness — it was systematic underestimation of network egress, licensing re-platforming costs, and the performance headroom needed to match on-prem latency SLAs on shared cloud infrastructure. We've done 140 enterprise migrations and have the post-migration billing data to know where estimates go wrong. You'll build the ML-powered estimation engine that uses workload analysis, historical migration patterns, and cloud pricing models to produce accurate pre-migration cost projections with confidence intervals. The output isn't a point estimate — it's a range with identified risk factors and the specific workload characteristics driving uncertainty. This is a senior IC role working with our cloud economics team. Your models will be used by enterprise sales to scope engagements and by clients to set migration budgets. When your estimates are wrong, people know — which makes getting them right professionally satisfying.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design ML models for cloud migration cost estimation using historical migration outcome data
  • Build workload analysis pipeline extracting cost-relevant signals from on-prem infrastructure specs
  • Implement confidence interval estimation identifying specific uncertainty drivers
  • Create risk factor attribution explaining what drives cost overrun probability
  • Integrate estimation engine into sales engineering tooling
  • Monitor estimation accuracy post-migration and retrain on new outcome data

Requirements

  • 6+ years in cloud economics, FinOps, or infrastructure cost management
  • Deep understanding of cloud pricing models across AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Strong Python, SQL, and statistical modeling skills
  • Experience with workload characterization and performance modeling
  • Ability to communicate uncertainty clearly to non-technical business audiences

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • $4,000 annual professional development budget
  • Equity participation
  • Bonus on estimation accuracy improvement
