About the role

Cold chain failures cost the pharmaceutical industry $35 billion annually. A temperature excursion lasting 4 hours during a transcontinental shipment can invalidate a batch of vaccines worth $800,000. Our platform monitors 6,000 active shipments simultaneously using IoT sensor data, and the alerting system that decides when to escalate a temperature event is what we need you to improve. The current rule-based alerting generates 1,200 alerts per week, of which about 200 are actionable. The other 1,000 are false positives that desensitize logistics managers and create response fatigue. You'll build the ML layer that classifies alerts by severity and urgency — distinguishing brief sensor glitches from genuine excursions that require intervention, and predicting which excursions will push a shipment out of specification before they do. The analytics team is four engineers. You'll own the alert classification model and the feature engineering pipeline that feeds it, working closely with pharmaceutical logistics specialists who understand what an actionable alert actually looks like.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build ML models for cold chain temperature excursion classification and severity scoring
  • Design features from IoT sensor time series data for alert prediction
  • Reduce false positive alert rate from 83% to under 30%
  • Implement real-time scoring of incoming sensor events at 6,000+ active shipments
  • Build monitoring dashboards for model accuracy and alert action rates
  • Collaborate with logistics specialists to calibrate model thresholds

Requirements

  • 3+ years in anomaly detection, time series analysis, or IoT data systems
  • Strong Python and SQL skills for data pipeline development
  • Experience with streaming or near-real-time data processing
  • Understanding of precision-recall trade-offs in alert classification
  • Ability to work with domain experts to define actionability ground truth

Benefits

  • Fully remote with flexible schedule
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with match
  • $2,500 professional development fund
  • Quarterly team events
