AI Compliance Report Summarization Engineer

About the role

Compliance officers at financial services firms read 15-30 regulatory reports per week. Each one is 40-80 pages of dense regulatory language, most of which is boilerplate or irrelevant to their specific business. The two paragraphs that matter — the new requirements that affect their operations — are buried. By the time an analyst finishes reading, half the week is gone. We're automating the extraction and summarization layer. You'll build the pipeline that ingests regulatory publications from SEC, FINRA, CFTC, and the Fed, identifies the substantive changes versus boilerplate, generates structured summaries organized by business impact area, and flags the changes that require immediate action versus those that allow a 12-month implementation window. The NLP system is functional but needs improvement in two areas: the boilerplate classifier misses about 20% of substantive content, and the business impact categorization is too coarse. You'll own both improvements, working with our compliance domain expert who spent 15 years at a bulge-bracket bank before joining us.

Responsibilities

  • Improve boilerplate versus substantive content classifier for regulatory documents
  • Enhance business impact categorization for more granular compliance area mapping
  • Build structured summary generation organized by impact area and implementation timeline
  • Implement action urgency scoring to distinguish immediate versus long-term requirements
  • Create evaluation framework using compliance officer feedback as ground truth
  • Monitor summarization quality across different regulatory bodies and document types

Requirements

  • 3+ years in NLP with document summarization or information extraction experience
  • Experience with LangChain, OpenAI API, or similar LLM orchestration frameworks
  • Strong Python skills for pipeline development
  • Familiarity with financial services regulatory landscape is a plus
  • Ability to work with domain experts to define and evaluate extraction quality
