About the role

Lawyers spend 30% of their time redlining contracts — comparing draft terms against company playbooks and marking clauses that deviate from standard positions. It's tedious, error-prone, and expensive at $300/hour billing rates. Our AI redlines contracts automatically, flagging non-standard clauses and suggesting alternative language from the client's approved playbook. As a junior developer, you'll work on the comparison engine: matching contract clauses against playbook positions, classifying deviation severity, and generating redline suggestions with explanations that reference the specific playbook section the clause deviates from. The comparison needs to be semantically aware — different wording for the same legal concept shouldn't trigger a false flag. Legal AI rewards precision over recall. A false redline wastes attorney time. A missed deviation could expose the company to risk. You'll calibrate the system to be conservative — better to flag something questionable than to miss something important.

Responsibilities

  • Build clause comparison engines matching contracts against company playbooks
  • Classify deviation severity for non-standard contract terms
  • Generate redline suggestions with playbook-referenced explanations
  • Implement semantic matching for legally equivalent but differently worded clauses
  • Monitor comparison accuracy and track false positive rates

Requirements
