About the role

Have you ever wanted to build AI systems that actually go to production — not just demos? We're a nine-person team spread across five time zones, all fully async, and Mevra Labs' conversational AI already handles the first line of support for a dozen mid-market companies. It works well until conversations get complicated, and right now our handoff-to-human logic is a set of brittle rules nobody wants to touch. We need someone to replace those rules with a model that predicts, turn by turn, whether a conversation should escalate to a human agent — trained on transcript data, tuned against real escalation outcomes, and shipped without breaking the conversations that are already working fine.

Responsibilities

  • Build a model predicting optimal human handoff timing from conversation transcripts
  • Replace legacy rule-based escalation logic with learned predictions
  • Fine-tune language models using Hugging Face and LangChain tooling
  • Evaluate model changes against real escalation outcome data
  • Coordinate rollout to avoid regressions in working conversation flows

Requirements

  • Experience with Hugging Face transformers and PyTorch
  • LangChain experience for conversational pipeline work
  • Comfort working fully async across five time zones
  • Experience replacing rule-based systems with learned models
  • Prior conversational AI or chatbot experience preferred
