AI Cross-Border Data Transfer Auditor Developer

About the role

GDPR Article 44 prohibits transferring personal data outside the EEA without adequate safeguards. But in a cloud-native AI system, data crosses borders invisibly — a training job spins up in us-east-1, a model endpoint caches data in ap-southeast-1, a logging pipeline writes to a US-based analytics service. Our auditor tracks every data movement across regions and flags transfers that violate jurisdictional policies. You'll build the monitoring layer that instruments data flows across cloud services, classifies data by sensitivity and jurisdictional origin, traces its path through the infrastructure, and generates compliance reports that prove to regulators exactly where data went and why. The system must be lightweight enough to not impact performance and comprehensive enough to catch data leakage through logging, caching, and backup systems. The privacy engineering team is four people. You'll be the senior engineer who designs the audit architecture, working with a privacy counsel who defines the jurisdictional rules and a cloud architect who understands the infrastructure topology.

Responsibilities

  • Build data flow monitoring across multi-cloud AI infrastructure
  • Classify data by sensitivity level and jurisdictional origin
  • Trace data paths through training, serving, logging, and backup systems
  • Generate compliance reports for regulatory evidence requests
  • Detect unauthorized cross-border transfers in real time
  • Design lightweight instrumentation that doesn't impact system performance

Requirements

  • 6+ years in cloud security or privacy engineering
  • Deep knowledge of multi-cloud infrastructure and data flow patterns
  • Understanding of GDPR, PIPL, and cross-border data transfer regulations
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native observability tools
  • Ability to design monitoring systems with minimal performance impact
