About the role

Translation is the easy part. Cultural adaptation is what most localization platforms get wrong. A direct translation of 'Free trial — no credit card required' tests poorly in markets where card-based billing is uncommon. A product description emphasizing individual achievement resonates in the US and misses in Japan. Our platform serves 90 enterprise software clients localizing products into 45 languages, and the difference between translation and cultural adaptation is now a measurable revenue signal. You'll build the cultural adaptation intelligence layer: models that identify culturally-sensitive content patterns, suggest adaptation alternatives calibrated to regional communication styles, and flag copy that tests poorly in specific markets based on our user research database. The output isn't rewriting content — it's structured recommendations that localization editors use to make faster, better decisions. This is a senior engineering role that requires both NLP depth and genuine cultural sensitivity. You'll collaborate with regional localization experts who will challenge your models with market knowledge you can't get from data alone.

Responsibilities

  • Build models to identify culturally-sensitive content patterns across 45 languages
  • Develop culturally-calibrated adaptation recommendations for localization editors
  • Create region-specific communication style models from user research data
  • Implement A/B testing infrastructure for measuring adaptation quality outcomes
  • Build evaluation pipelines using localization expert judgments as ground truth
  • Collaborate with regional experts to encode cultural knowledge into model features

Requirements

  • 6+ years in NLP engineering with multilingual or cross-cultural text applications
  • Experience with cross-lingual transfer learning and multilingual language models
  • Deep Python and PyTorch skills with HuggingFace ecosystem expertise
  • Track record building systems that perform well across diverse language families
  • Cross-cultural communication experience or multilingual background is a strong plus
