AI Data Catalog Product Engineer

About the role

Data teams waste 30% of their time just finding the right dataset. Our data catalog uses AI to automatically profile, tag, and document every table, column, and pipeline in an organization's data ecosystem. The catalog serves 85 enterprise clients with a combined 4 million cataloged assets. We're looking for a product engineer who can bridge the gap between our metadata ingestion backend and the search experience data teams actually use. You'll build connectors for new data sources, improve our automated column-level profiling, and enhance the natural language search that lets analysts ask "where is customer churn data?" instead of browsing a taxonomy tree. The product engineering team is six people. You'll own features end-to-end — from database connector to API to search index — and ship them in 2-3 week cycles. Customer feedback drives the roadmap; you'll read support tickets and join client calls to understand what's broken.

Responsibilities

  • Build connectors for new data sources: databases, warehouses, and streaming platforms
  • Improve automated column profiling and metadata extraction
  • Enhance natural language search over cataloged data assets
  • Design APIs for catalog integration with downstream tools
  • Ship features end-to-end in 2-3 week cycles
  • Engage with customer feedback to inform feature priorities

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data engineering or backend development
  • Strong SQL and Python skills with experience building data connectors
  • Familiarity with data warehouses: Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift
  • Understanding of metadata management and data governance concepts
  • Experience with search technologies or NLP for information retrieval
