AI Data Contract Versioning Developer

Lily Santos

Full-time · Job · London

About the role

Data contracts solve the 'my pipeline broke because upstream changed the schema' problem — but only if you can track what version of the contract each consumer has agreed to and detect when producers violate those agreements. Most data contract implementations are aspirational: teams sign up, write contracts, and then discover 6 months later that half the contracts are stale and nobody knows which consumers depend on which version. Our data catalog platform is adding data contract management as a first-class feature. You'll build the versioning infrastructure: a contract registry that tracks who has agreed to what version, a change impact analysis system that maps contract modifications to affected consumers before those changes are deployed, and the automated enforcement layer that blocks schema changes that would break active contract consumers. The engineering team is six. This feature is the second most-requested on our roadmap after our data quality integration shipped. You'll own the contract versioning system end-to-end, working closely with the data quality team who've already built the adjacent quality monitoring features.

Responsibilities

  • Build a contract registry tracking producer-consumer agreements and version history
  • Implement change impact analysis showing which consumers break before schema changes deploy
  • Design automated enforcement blocking changes that violate active consumer contracts
  • Create contract discovery that identifies implicit contracts from existing schema evolution patterns
  • Build APIs for contract lifecycle management consumed by data team tooling
  • Monitor contract compliance and generate violation reports for data platform owners

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data engineering or data platform development
  • Experience with schema management, data contracts, or API versioning patterns
  • Strong Python and SQL skills with distributed system design understanding
  • Familiarity with data catalog or data governance platforms
  • Ability to design APIs that work well for diverse data team personas

Benefits

  • Fully remote across UK/EU time zones
  • 28 days PTO plus bank holidays
  • Private health insurance
  • £2,500 annual professional development budget
  • Pension contribution matching
