About the role

Centralized data teams are a bottleneck. Every analytics request goes through the same 6 engineers, and the backlog is 4 months deep. Our data mesh implementation decentralizes data ownership: each business domain owns its data products, publishes them through standardized interfaces, and maintains quality guarantees — while a federated governance layer ensures consistency and discoverability. You'll design the technical architecture that makes data mesh practical: self-serve data product templates, automated quality verification, a federated catalog for cross-domain discovery, and the governance policies that prevent decentralization from becoming chaos. Data mesh sounds great in theory. Making it work in a 2,000-person organization with legacy systems, political boundaries, and varying technical maturity across domains — that's the hard part. You'll navigate organizational complexity as much as technical complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Design data mesh architecture with self-serve data product templates
  • Build federated data catalog for cross-domain discovery and access
  • Implement automated data quality verification for domain data products
  • Define governance policies balancing domain autonomy with organizational standards
  • Lead data mesh adoption across business domains with varying technical maturity

Requirements

  • 6+ years in data architecture or data engineering leadership
  • Deep experience with Snowflake and modern data stack
  • Understanding of data mesh principles and federated governance
  • Strong Spark and Airflow skills for pipeline orchestration
  • Experience navigating organizational change in large enterprises
