AI Data Mesh Governance Developer

About the role

Data mesh architectures distribute data ownership to domain teams — but without centralized governance, you end up with 40 teams producing 40 incompatible data products that nobody can actually join. We've helped 25 enterprise clients make the move to data mesh, and governance is the part that keeps breaking. You'll build the governance automation layer: schema contract enforcement that catches breaking changes before they reach consumers, lineage tracking that maps data product dependencies automatically, data quality SLA monitoring with automated escalation, and a metadata registry that domain teams can update without a pull request. The goal is governance that's invisible to domain teams when they're compliant, and immediately visible when they're not. The platform engineering team is five. This role owns the governance tooling — roughly 30% of the overall platform. You'll work closely with data architects at client organizations who have strong opinions about what governance should and shouldn't look like.

Responsibilities

  • Build schema contract enforcement to catch breaking changes before consumer impact
  • Implement automated lineage tracking across data mesh domain products
  • Develop data quality SLA monitoring with automated escalation workflows
  • Create a self-service metadata registry for domain team updates
  • Build compliance dashboards that surface governance violations to platform owners
  • Design governance APIs consumed by client domain teams

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data engineering or platform engineering
  • Strong Python and SQL skills with pipeline development experience
  • Experience with data quality frameworks and schema management
  • Familiarity with data mesh or data platform governance concepts
  • Ability to work with enterprise clients who have complex existing architectures
