About the role

We are a certified B Corporation. We take that seriously — not as a marketing badge but as a constraint on how we make decisions. Our work sits at the intersection of employment services, community economic development, and the careful use of data to understand whether any of it is actually working. We design and deliver programmes that connect underemployed adults with skills training and employment pathways in sectors experiencing genuine labour demand. We currently support just over 2,000 programme participants across four cities. The question we have always struggled to answer well is: what actually works? We measure outputs — completion rates, employment rates at 90 days, average wage change — because they are measurable. We are much worse at measuring outcomes: whether the employment sustained, whether the wage trajectory continued, whether the participant\'s household economic stability actually improved. We are hiring a part-time AI and Data Researcher — three days a week — to help us build better measurement frameworks using the longitudinal data we have been collecting, and to explore carefully and honestly where AI tools might improve our case management and participant support, and where they might do harm we have not anticipated.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a longitudinal outcome measurement framework using our 5-year participant dataset — employment sustainability, wage trajectory, and household economic indicators
  • Build a Tableau dashboard presenting programme outcome data for funders and commissioners in a format they can use in reporting and renewal conversations
  • Conduct an AI opportunity and risk assessment: where could AI tools meaningfully support case managers, and where do the risks — bias, opacity, surveillance — outweigh the benefits
  • Support the commissioning team with data analysis for funding applications and programme evaluation reports
  • Contribute to the team\'s data governance framework, particularly around participant data consent, retention, and use

Requirements

  • 3+ years of research, analytics, or data science in a social sector, public sector, or impact measurement context
  • Python for data analysis, longitudinal cohort modelling, and the automation of measurement reporting
  • R for statistical analysis — our existing research partners use R and being able to read and collaborate on their analysis is a practical advantage
  • SQL for working with our participant data in our case management database and longitudinal survey data warehouse
  • Statistics: survival analysis, difference-in-differences, propensity score matching — the methods appropriate to observational programme evaluation, not controlled experiments
  • Tableau for producing outcome measurement dashboards that funders, commissioners, and programme staff can navigate
  • Familiarity with the ethical dimensions of AI in social services — we will ask about this in the interview and we want a thoughtful answer, not a policy recitation

Benefits

  • £34,000 – £42,000 pro-rated to three days per week
  • Fully remote with monthly team days in our London office
  • Flexible hours — we care about output, not attendance
  • Pension contribution of 5% employer match
  • Work that is genuinely about something — we are not measuring the right things yet and getting it right actually matters for the people we work with
