AI Data Stewardship Recommendation Engine Developer

About the role

Data governance fails when it's all policy and no support. You can mandate that every dataset have an owner, a description, and a classification — but without making it easy for people to comply, they won't. Our recommendation engine helps data stewards maintain their assets by surfacing specific, actionable suggestions: "This table has 3 columns with no description — here are AI-generated descriptions for your review." "This dataset hasn't been accessed in 90 days — should it be archived?" You'll build the recommendation generation system: analyzing catalog usage patterns to identify neglected assets, generating descriptions and classification suggestions using domain context, prioritizing recommendations by impact, and tracking adoption rates to learn which suggestion types actually get acted on. The data governance product team is five engineers. You'll own the recommendation engine, working between the metadata quality team who defines what good governance looks like and the user experience team who designs how recommendations are presented.

Responsibilities

  • Build recommendation generation for neglected catalog assets
  • Generate AI-drafted descriptions and classification suggestions
  • Prioritize recommendations by governance impact
  • Track recommendation adoption rates for engine improvement
  • Analyze usage patterns identifying assets needing stewardship attention
  • Support A/B testing of different recommendation strategies

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data engineering or analytics platform development
  • Understanding of data catalog, data governance, and metadata management
  • Strong Python and SQL skills with recommendation system experience
  • Familiarity with natural language generation for technical documentation
  • Ability to design systems that change user behavior at scale
