About the role

Engineering teams hate writing documentation but need it desperately. Our automation platform generates documentation from source code, commit histories, and API behavior — then keeps it updated as the codebase evolves. The output needs to be useful enough that developers actually read it instead of going straight to the source. This 9-month contract focuses on the generation pipeline: analyzing code structure to identify documentation-worthy components, generating explanations that match the team's documentation style, and building the change detection system that triggers doc updates when code behavior diverges from existing documentation. Documentation generation is harder than it looks. The challenge isn't generating text — it's generating text that developers find valuable. Obvious explanations waste reader time. Missing context makes docs useless. You'll calibrate the generation to hit the sweet spot where documentation adds genuine understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Build code analysis systems identifying documentation-worthy components
  • Design generation pipelines matching team-specific documentation styles
  • Implement change detection triggering doc updates on code behavior changes
  • Evaluate generated documentation quality with developer feedback loops
  • Calibrate generation verbosity for maximum developer utility

Requirements

  • 3+ years in developer tools or documentation engineering
  • Hands-on LangChain and OpenAI API experience
  • Understanding of code analysis and AST parsing
  • Strong Python skills with FastAPI
  • Good judgment about what developers actually need documented
