AI Edge Model Compression Engineer

Blake Goldberg

Full-time · Job · Chicago

About the role

You'll be the fourth engineer on a small embedded AI team of eleven, working directly with the firmware and telemetry pipeline leads. Our wearable and sensor fusion models already run on-device, but every new model version ships larger than the last, and flash storage on our hardware isn't growing at the same rate. This role owns quantization, pruning, and distillation for every model before it ships, keeping accuracy losses small enough that nobody downstream notices the difference.

Responsibilities

  • Own quantization and pruning pipelines for all on-device model releases
  • Benchmark compressed models against accuracy and latency targets
  • Partner with firmware engineers on memory and flash storage constraints
  • Document compression tradeoffs for each shipped model version

Requirements

  • Deep experience with model quantization, pruning, or distillation
  • Strong PyTorch and TensorFlow skills for edge deployment
  • Comfortable working within tight embedded hardware constraints
  • Ability to defend accuracy tradeoffs with clear benchmarking data

Benefits

  • Fully remote position
  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Health and dental insurance
  • Hardware lab access for on-device testing
