About the role

End-to-end tests are valuable and expensive to write. The expensive part isn't the assertion — it's figuring out the precise sequence of UI interactions and API calls that constitutes the user journey being tested. For a complex workflow with 12 steps, writing that from memory requires intimate knowledge of the application that most developers don't have for areas outside their immediate ownership. Intelligent test scenario recording — observing a user completing a workflow once and automatically generating a maintainable, parameterizable test case — is the capability that removes the friction from E2E test creation. The hard part isn't recording the interactions; it's inferring the semantically meaningful steps from the raw event stream, generating assertions at the right abstraction level, and producing test code that stays green as the UI evolves. Our testing platform serves 120 engineering teams. You'll lead the test scenario recording capability: designing the interaction capture system, building the semantic step inference that distinguishes meaningful actions from noise, implementing test code generation that produces maintainable test cases rather than brittle click-coordinate sequences, and handling the abstraction layer that makes recorded tests resilient to minor UI changes.

Responsibilities

  • Design interaction capture system recording browser and API events during user workflow execution
  • Build semantic step inference distinguishing meaningful workflow actions from incidental UI interaction noise
  • Implement test code generation producing maintainable, parameterizable test cases from recorded scenarios
  • Develop UI change resilience using semantic element locators rather than brittle coordinates or CSS selectors
  • Create assertion inference suggesting appropriate checkpoints based on observed state changes
  • Build scenario replay validation confirming generated tests reproduce the original behavior

Requirements

  • 6+ years in test engineering, browser automation, or developer tooling
  • Deep understanding of E2E testing patterns, test maintainability, and UI abstraction strategies
  • Strong Python and TypeScript skills with browser automation framework experience
  • Experience with semantic element location strategies and resilient test design
  • Track record reducing E2E test authoring friction with intelligent tooling
