About the role

We are a government technology agency based in Singapore. We build and operate the digital infrastructure and citizen-facing services for the Singapore Government. Our mandate is to make government services simpler, faster, and more accessible for Singapore's residents and businesses. We currently operate over 300 digital government services and process approximately 4 million citizen transactions per month. The AI engineering team works on a range of applied AI problems across citizen services: automated processing of government forms and documents, intelligent routing of service enquiries, and predictive analytics for service demand planning. We are hiring a contract AI engineer to work within this team for a 12-month engagement. The role is on-site in Singapore. We offer strong compensation, a technically sophisticated environment, and the opportunity to work on AI systems that affect the daily lives of Singapore's 5.9 million residents. All candidates must be eligible to work in Singapore or hold an Employment Pass — we cannot sponsor new EP applications for contract roles but we can support EP transfers.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain AI-powered document processing pipelines for government forms and citizen correspondence
Develop multilingual NLP components for citizen enquiry routing and automated response generation
Implement model monitoring and quality assurance frameworks for production AI systems in a regulated government context
Collaborate with service designers and policy officers to understand the operational context and quality requirements for each AI application
Contribute to the team's shared AI platform: model serving, evaluation standards, and the governance documentation required for government AI deployment

Requirements

5+ years of AI or ML engineering with experience building NLP or document processing systems in production
Python for AI system development, pipeline engineering, and building the evaluation and monitoring infrastructure that keeps production systems reliable
Hugging Face for working with multilingual language models — our documents include English, Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil and the systems must handle all four
RAG pipeline design for grounding AI outputs in authoritative government policy and procedural content
Docker and Kubernetes for containerised deployment on our government cloud infrastructure
SQL for working with our service transaction databases and model performance monitoring data
Familiarity with government service design principles or public sector digital transformation is an advantage — you will be working with policy officers and service designers who are not technical

SGD $9,000 – $11,500 per month (approximately USD $6,700 – $8,600)
