AI ESG Portfolio Scoring Developer

Dominic Johansson

Full-time · Job · London

About the role

ESG scoring is broken. Most providers use the same reported data, apply the same methodologies, and produce scores with a 0.61 correlation to each other — meaning two equally reputable providers often give the same company vastly different scores. Our clients are asset managers making billion-dollar allocation decisions who want something better. We're building an alternative scoring engine that combines disclosed data, NLP analysis of company filings, satellite-derived operational data (energy use, land use, emissions), and controversy signals from news and NGO reports. The goal is a score that's more predictive of real-world ESG outcomes than anything on the market. You'll join a team of three data scientists building this engine. Your specific focus is the data integration and scoring model layer: building pipelines that ingest and normalize heterogeneous ESG data sources, developing composite scoring models with transparent methodology, and creating the audit trail that lets clients see exactly why a company received a given score.

Responsibilities

  • Build data pipelines integrating disclosed ESG data, satellite signals, and news sources
  • Develop composite ESG scoring models with documented, auditable methodology
  • Implement score decomposition that explains individual factor contributions
  • Create normalization frameworks for comparing companies across sectors and regions
  • Build monitoring for data source availability and score stability over time
  • Collaborate with investment analysts to validate scoring against real-world outcomes

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data science or analytics with ESG, sustainability, or financial data experience
  • Strong Python and SQL skills for data integration and analysis
  • Experience with composite scoring or rating methodologies
  • Comfort working with heterogeneous, often low-quality external data sources
  • Understanding of ESG frameworks: GRI, SASB, or TCFD

Benefits

  • Fully remote across UK/EU time zones
  • 28 days PTO plus bank holidays
  • Private health insurance
  • £3,000 annual professional development budget
  • Pension contribution matching
