About the role

What we already have: petabyte-scale data lakes, a mature batch pipeline stack, and strong ML models. What we're missing: a real-time event fabric that lets those models consume fresh signals the moment they arrive. That gap is what you'll close. As the AI Event-Driven Architecture Engineer at Infera Cloud, you'll design and implement the Kafka-based event streaming layer that connects upstream data producers to our feature store and model serving infrastructure. This includes schema governance, consumer group management, exactly-once delivery guarantees, and the monitoring layer that catches silent failures before they propagate. This is high-stakes infrastructure: downstream ML models for pricing, fraud, and recommendations all depend on the freshness and integrity of the event stream. You'll operate at the intersection of data engineering and ML infrastructure with direct impact on model accuracy across our entire product surface. We are remote-first across US and APAC timezones.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Kafka-based event streaming infrastructure for ML feature pipelines
  • Own schema governance and backward compatibility for event producers
  • Build monitoring and alerting for consumer lag, data quality, and delivery failures
  • Collaborate with ML engineers to optimize feature freshness SLAs
  • Drive adoption of event-driven patterns across the data platform

Requirements

  • 5+ years data or ML infrastructure engineering
  • Deep expertise in Apache Kafka and event streaming patterns
  • Experience with Apache Spark and distributed compute
  • Strong Python skills
  • Background in feature store or ML platform engineering is a strong plus
