About the role

Feature engineering is the unglamorous part of ML that separates good models from great ones. We know this because we've seen it across 30+ client engagements. Companies bring us datasets and model architectures that should work — and usually, the missing piece is better features. We're looking for a freelance feature engineering specialist to join our consulting bench. Each engagement is 4-6 weeks: you receive a client's raw data, understand their prediction target, and build a feature store that transforms their model performance. You'll document your methodology so the client's team can maintain and extend your work. This is steady freelance work for someone who genuinely enjoys the puzzle of turning raw data into predictive signals. Our clients span healthcare, finance, retail, and logistics — you'll never get bored.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze client datasets and identify feature engineering opportunities
  • Build feature pipelines using pandas, Spark, and Snowflake
  • Design and evaluate feature sets that improve model performance
  • Document feature engineering methodology for client handoff
  • Deliver measurable uplift in model metrics within 4-6 week engagements

Requirements

  • 5+ years in data science or ML with a focus on feature engineering
  • Expert-level pandas, SQL, and Spark skills
  • Experience with diverse data types (time series, text, categorical, geospatial)
  • Strong statistical intuition for feature selection and validation
  • Ability to work independently and deliver under engagement timelines
