About the role

We serve regional banks that write off a growing share of first-party fraud as an unrecoverable cost of doing business. The person in this role will own prediction for cardholders who dispute legitimate charges to avoid payment — a pattern our existing AML and sanctions tooling isn't built to catch, since the account itself is genuine. You'll build models that flag accounts with a high likelihood of filing a first-party fraud chargeback before the dispute is even submitted, using transaction and account behavior patterns distinct from the identity and network fraud our other teams already cover. Reliability and auditability are non-negotiable here — every flagged account needs a clear behavioral basis before a bank's fraud team acts on it, since incorrectly restricting a legitimate customer carries real relationship and regulatory cost.

Responsibilities

  • Build predictive models for first-party fraud chargeback risk
  • Distinguish first-party fraud behavior patterns from account takeover or identity fraud
  • Maintain an auditable behavioral basis for every flagged account
  • Tune detection thresholds to minimize legitimate customer friction
  • Present detection performance in quarterly client compliance reviews

Requirements

  • Experience with fraud or credit risk modeling in banking
  • Strong SQL and Spark skills for large-scale transaction data
  • Familiarity with scikit-learn for supervised classification
  • Comfortable working in a regulated, audit-heavy environment
