About the role

Game economies are complex systems where a small parameter change — adjusting the gold drop rate by 5% — can crash the entire virtual market within 48 hours. Our simulation platform lets game designers test economic changes before they go live, using agent-based models that mimic real player behavior across different segments: whales, grinders, casual players, and traders. The current simulation engine handles single-currency economies well, but our clients are building games with 5-10 interconnected currencies, crafting systems, and player-to-player marketplaces. You'll extend the simulation framework to model these multi-currency economies, calibrate agent behaviors against real player telemetry, and build the dashboards that help designers understand what happens when they change a drop rate or add a new item tier. This is an 8-month contract. You'll work with our game design consultant who defines the economic models and our frontend developer who builds the simulation dashboard. Expect to learn a lot about behavioral economics whether you planned to or not.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Extend agent-based simulation to support multi-currency game economies
  • Calibrate simulated agent behaviors against real player telemetry data
  • Build scenario comparison tools for game designers
  • Implement sensitivity analysis for key economic parameters
  • Create visualizations that make simulation outputs actionable
  • Validate simulation predictions against live game data post-launch

Requirements

  • 3+ years in simulation, RL, or agent-based modeling
  • Experience with reinforcement learning or multi-agent systems
  • Strong Python skills with interest in game systems
  • Understanding of basic economic concepts: supply/demand, inflation, equilibrium
  • Data visualization skills for presenting simulation results

Benefits

  • Fully remote contract
  • Competitive monthly rate
  • Access to game telemetry datasets
  • Flexible hours
  • Potential extension for follow-on projects
