About the role

GDPR compliance is mostly an engineering problem dressed as a legal one. The right to erasure, data portability, consent management, and purpose limitation all have technical implementations — pipelines that scan for PII, workflows that propagate deletion across distributed systems, APIs that export personal data on request. When these are manual processes, they are expensive and error-prone. When they are automated, compliance becomes operational. We build the GDPR automation layer used by 280 European SaaS companies. Our platform handles data subject requests end-to-end: receiving requests, locating personal data across all connected systems, executing erasure or export workflows, and generating audit logs that satisfy supervisory authority inquiries. You'll build the ML-powered PII detection component — the system that finds personal data in semi-structured and unstructured content across databases, S3 buckets, and data warehouses that clients didn't think had PII in them. The challenge is precision: false positives create unnecessary deletion and false negatives create compliance gaps.

Fully remote.

  • Build ML-based PII detection models for structured and unstructured data sources
  • Integrate PII detection into the data subject request fulfillment workflow
  • Implement precision/recall dashboards for compliance team oversight
  • Build connectors for common data storage targets: Snowflake, S3, PostgreSQL
  • Design audit logging that satisfies regulatory documentation requirements
  • Collaborate with legal team to encode GDPR interpretations into detection rules

Requirements

  • 3+ years in data engineering with privacy or compliance domain experience
  • Experience building PII detection or data classification systems
  • Strong Python and SQL skills
  • Familiarity with GDPR technical implementation requirements
  • Ability to work with legal and compliance stakeholders

Benefits

  • Fully remote across EU time zones
  • 30 days PTO plus public holidays
  • Private health insurance
