About the role

Supply chain managers, insurers, and investors need to know when political instability in a region is about to spike — before it hits the headlines. Our geopolitical risk scoring system processes 40,000 news articles, government filings, social media signals, and economic indicators daily, producing country-level and region-level risk scores that update every 6 hours. The scoring models combine NLP-extracted event signals (protests, policy changes, military movements, sanctions) with structured economic data (trade flows, currency volatility, commodity prices) and historical patterns. Your job is improving the predictive accuracy of these composite scores — not just detecting events after they happen, but identifying the leading indicators that precede escalation. The intelligence analytics team is five people. You'll work alongside a geopolitical analyst who validates model outputs against real-world developments and provides the domain expertise that keeps our models grounded in reality rather than statistical artifacts.

Responsibilities

  • Improve geopolitical risk scoring accuracy through better signal fusion
  • Build NLP pipelines for event extraction from multilingual news sources
  • Identify leading indicators that precede geopolitical escalation events
  • Design backtesting frameworks for risk score prediction validation
  • Integrate new data sources as they become available
  • Collaborate with domain analysts on score interpretation and calibration

Requirements

  • 5+ years in NLP or quantitative analysis with multi-source data fusion
  • Experience with text classification and event extraction from news
  • Strong Python and statistical modeling skills
  • Ability to work with multilingual text data
  • Interest in geopolitics, international relations, or risk analysis
