About the role

A temperature spike in reactor vessel 3 causes a pressure drop in the downstream heat exchanger, which triggers a flow rate adjustment in the cooling loop, which eventually shows up as a product quality deviation 45 minutes later. Understanding these cascading correlations across 4,000 sensors is the difference between preventing failures and chasing symptoms after the fact. Our anomaly correlation engine processes streaming sensor data from industrial facilities, identifies anomalous readings, and traces their root causes through the causal graph of the production process. You'll build the causal discovery algorithms that learn these equipment relationships from historical data, the real-time correlation engine that links concurrent anomalies to common root causes, and the explanation system that presents causal chains to plant operators. The industrial AI team is seven engineers. You'll be the senior ML engineer who designs the causal inference methodology, working alongside process engineers who validate causal graphs against their domain knowledge of how the equipment actually works.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build causal discovery algorithms learning equipment relationships from sensor data
  • Design real-time correlation linking concurrent anomalies to root causes
  • Create causal chain explanations for plant operator decision support
  • Handle streaming data from 4,000+ sensors with sub-minute latency
  • Validate causal graphs against process engineering domain knowledge
  • Scale the correlation engine across multiple industrial facilities

Requirements

  • 7+ years in ML with causal inference, time series, or industrial applications
  • Experience with causal discovery methods and Granger causality
  • Strong Python, PyTorch, and streaming data processing skills
  • Understanding of industrial process control and sensor data
  • Track record of shipping production systems in manufacturing or energy

Benefits

  • Fully remote with quarterly facility visits
  • $200K+ total compensation plus equity
  • Comprehensive health coverage
  • $5,000 annual conference and learning budget
  • Work on critical industrial infrastructure
