About the role

Have you ever seen a patient give up on an appeal simply because the denial letter was impossible to parse? At Lamion Solutions we publish internally on clinical NLP challenges and expect the team to read and apply findings from current research. This role builds the model that reads insurance denial letters, extracts the stated reason codes, and maps them to the specific evidence needed for a successful appeal. The impact lands directly on patients and the billing teams supporting them, who currently spend hours manually decoding dense, inconsistent denial language from dozens of different payers.

Fully remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build NLP models to extract reason codes from denial letters
  • Map denial reasons to required appeal evidence
  • Evaluate model accuracy against manually reviewed denials
  • Collaborate with billing teams on real-world edge cases
  • Publish internal findings on denial letter language patterns

Requirements

  • 4+ years in healthcare NLP or clinical text processing
  • Experience with Hugging Face or similar NLP frameworks
  • Familiarity with insurance claims and appeals processes
  • Strong Python and RAG pipeline experience
  • Comfortable working with sensitive patient data
